5 Reasons Why You Should Love Your Public Library!

I have loved the public library since I was a kid. I remember asking my mom to take me all the time and she would happily oblige. It's always been a place of happiness and comfort. In the summer, we would go to the library and I would spend hours just finding all the books my bag could hold. I couldn't wait to go home and start reading all my new books and finding myself in a new adventure. Nothing has really changed between then and now. One of the first things I did when I moved to lakeland was head to the public library and get a library card! I still adore the library but I know a lot of people that don't know too much about their public library. The public library has a lot of benefits that we all should be taking advantage of.`

1. Free Books! I mean who doesn’t like free books?! Or just free things in general? I love that I can read a book for no charge. Plus not every book I read I buy. I already have an out of control bookshelf! It’s so helpful to be able to read books and not have a budget in mind.

2. A public library card is free of charge!

Most of the time your library card is free of charge! Your normally need to provide a identification of some sort, a piece of mail with your correct address on it, and that’s it! It’s super simple, quick, and there’s so many benefits with your new library card.

3. You can use your library card info to get free ebook rentals! Between Libby, Overdrive, Hoopla, and more there are plenty of apps to use in conjunction with your library card. I love that with my Overdrive app, I'm able to rent free kindle books! You're also able to put books on hold, request books, and even change the amount of time books are rented to you! All through a app in conjunction with your library card. A lot of times newer releases that I can't find in my library I'm able to find on one of my apps. It's pretty awesome and opens a whole new selection of books for me!

4. You can put books on hold and also have books sent to you!

With your library card , in most libraries, you’re able to go to the library’s online database and put books on hold. It’s amazing and frees up some time if you're looking for a specific book. Also during Covid-19 I learned my library can send books I had on hold in the mail to me! They just called to see if the address I had on file was the right one. I was pretty amazed and I loved how simple the process was. Books right at my door is a dream come true!

5. Always quiet and peaceful!

I have not only used the library just as a place to grab my books but also to have a moment of quiet. One of my favorite things about the library is how peaceful it can be. Not many places we go are expected to be quiet. It’s nice to go somewhere that isn’t insane and full of noise. I love to just read or study in library just to give myself a break from my apartment.
